Line project

For this project we focused on line. Not just drawing straight and curvy and zigzag lines. That's for high schoolers. We learned line by sticking a piece of tracing paper up to a tv and drawing the lines as the pictures move.

This part of the assignment was a lot of fun. I got to watch and draw spongebob. Who could complain about that?

The second part was what was tough. We had to color them in, in anyway, using grey scale tones. Now, it sounds easy, but it's not. You have to think: what can I do to make this look interesting, and not like a kindergartener did it?

The critique went really well. I liked that we actually learned instead of just saying, I like that one cause it has movement. Learning about the words with the pictures in front of us was helpful.

Overall, I liked this project. I'm not sure I would do it again, or if I did, try to take a different approach to it somehow.

Acetone project

Our final project in the dot series is the acetone project. This project was a lot of fun. It was probably the easiest to do simply because the first piece you were simply making a big version of the pattern from project 2.

The free form one was a lot harder. Because you have to commit with the acetone, you have to just jump in and hope it works. I feel like I could of done something else to make the triangles stick out, but I was afraid I'd screw it up. I could of made another one, but the acetone was killing my head.

The critique again was a bit of a joke. It went a little smoother, but still the same people talked. The only thing that I think is coming out of it is that we get to see the projects of the people that never show up to class. Also, I didn't like that people used color. That was a big no no since the beginning. But no, everyone praised them for doing it. That was a bit annoying.

Over all I liked learning how to use acetone. I will definitely use this process again.

Pattern project

My second project in 2d design was the pattern project. You take your dots and turn them into a pattern.

This project is a lot harder then you would think. Just because you can make a pattern doesn't mean it is a good pattern. It takes a lot of work to figure out a pattern that is aesthetically pleasing.

The critique was a bit of a joke. No one really talked. The people who do talk talk the entire time. I talk because I don't like just sitting in the silence.
